League of Legends INFECTING Windows Users with Rootkit
Переглядів 6 тис.Місяць тому
Riot Games just dropped a new crate for League of Legends but instead of loot, this crate has a rootkit inside. Riot Games' anti-cheat tool, Vanguard, has entered the game to fight those pesky cheaters. But here's the thing: to use it on Windows, you basically have to let Riot install a rootkit on your computer, which gives them some seriously deep access. Yikes! On the bright side, at least Li...

Framework will support Risc-V... but not Coreboot...
Thanks for mentioning the security issues with .deb files. Users should find a different way and making it harder is a good step. You still have the terminal, where apt should also display a warning. A popup whe clicking the file should warn. Steam should have a repo and not a random .deb file
me entirely too hopeful really wants the next framework laptop to be riscv but oops its on a fpga
Nice. But, I've never heard cursor pronounced like that 😂
I am so hyped to finally see risc-v start to get some "consumer" exposure. I've been following the progress since 2017ish. It's sad to see that its going to be a less powerfull raspberry pi 4, but thats to be expected, hope there will be a actual consumer product soon thereafter!
That's only the case for the Framework board, the full laptop that DeepComputing also announced recently is supposed to be an 8-core iirc. I think the Framework board is low power, because it's a new concept and they're testing the waters.
When I'd install Steam Snap, I was using it as an installer like on windows. I have video that could take 12 minutes long since I was a little bit slow. "How to install Steam snap with full compatibility on Ubuntu?" So I can show you. Don't forget to type this answer in the terminal "sudo chmod u+s /usr/bin/bwrap" before continuing.
The .deb non-handling is indeed a roadblock for newcomers. This is why I recommend Fedora for newcomers. Especially because Flatpacks are super integrated with software store but also that double clicking an .rpm takes you to the software store where data is pulled about the package and you can proceed to install it. It is logical, and adheres to what people from Windows are used to.
I would love a usable RISC-V system. Unfortunately, that SoC is way too slow. I have a Framework, and they're great, but a bit expensive. There's no way anyone is going to buy that in a laptop so expensive. Actually, I would like a RISC-V SBC that performed at least as fast as a Raspberry Pi 5. It would be great for a local cluster, even if it was a little more expensive than the equivalent Pi 5.
If anything, I'd expect specifically existing Framework 13 owners to be interested in it, to swap out the board and be able to tinker with RISC-V in a mobile form factor that they're used to. If you want to buy a complete device, consider DeepComputing's full laptop instead - it's apparently much more powerful.
Linux news! poor a stiff drink lets go
I am using Garuda Linux it's basically a pre-configured Arch Linux distro focused on gaming but you can use it for casual use if you want to experience Arch Linux I would also recommend downloading Garuda Dragonized AKA Garuda KDE Dr460nized for a full Arch Linux experience without having to use the actual Arch Linux. You get Arch Linux right out of the box and runs off pacman just like Arch Linux. You don't have to keep the main theme and you can change it just like Arch Linux and unlike Arch Linux if it breaks or you encountered an error it's very simple to use if you want to experience Arch Linux I find the system even better than Arch Linux and has a better konsole icon than the actual Arch Linux it also makes a better SteamOS and HoloISO because of its frequent updates. I find Garuda Linux to be the most secure and privacy focused distro available compared to Linux Mint if you know how to use pacman and are familiar with it as an Arch Linux user then you should be perfectly fine running installment scripts. Garuda Linux is a Legendary distribution based on my experience and testifies the limitless power of an Arch Linux user. Oh yes controllers work straight out of the box on Steam all you have to do is enable proton to run Windows compatible games I am enjoying customization as if I was literally using the actual Arch Linux.
LOL
@10:14, let people install what they want from where they want, this is windows dumb users access thing again.
If you are referring to the news about Ubuntu, they are letting people install whatever they want. This was news about them adding the feature to the App Center
Debian is looking for the artwork for Trixie. Could be great if you talk about that to reach more people.
Switched all my Linux workstations and dual boot laptops to Mint Debian Edition months ago. Dont like the way Ubuntu is going. I realize there is a need to standardize Linux to a point where first party developers can use an OS to base App releases and support on. I dont think it should be the Ubuntu Fork. The support should be based on Debian native in my opinion. Ubuntu was my first desktop Linux but they seem to be making as big a mess as Gnome on their break to be "individual". Im not saying people shouldnt use forks. Im saying if people want first party support of software they want developed for Linux they should go Debian.
Risc-V is such a promising project!
vanguard made my laptop get blue screen day one, i immediately uninstalled it and havent went back. I also just built a new pc so rather not risk it.
Good episode.
Does anyone have any idea why any Linux distro I use cap my internet speed to 3MB/s when connected to a phone's wifi hotspot? When connected to a usb cable with tethering turned on my phone or with a real wifi router, this doesn't happen. My phone's internet speed is more than 36MB/s.
it is more likely than your ISP is throttling the speed when you connect to the hotspot. This is common practice for a lot of ISPs unfortunately. I would look into that first because there shouldnt be anything in any Linux distro that causes this but especially not many distros
The internet speed is fine on my phone and if I connect to another phone or when I used to use windows. I have tried multiple phones. With three different internet service providers. Same issue. This issue gets fixed if I connect the phone with a usb cable and turn on usb tethering on the phone. But this is very inconvenient.
Wells Fargo employees fired for shaking the mouse cursors too much. 😅
Slow news week 😢
Thanks for the video man! 😎
Still using 5.7 no update yet
are you referring to Plasma 5.27? If so, are you using Kubuntu?

Lately Ubuntu seems like an incomplete OS. Cinnamon on Mint is better and their LMDE version gets the latest updates too. Always a good video.
sxmo is a rly good one if you want to stick to simple cli things on a small display.. its like having dwm on your phone .. i like the default onscreenKB they give us as default .. id be happier if mobian or armbian made it available from apt
The Hague is the English name. The very official name is 's-Gravenhage or translated; the Count's Hedge (Private Enclosure) and it was the hedge of the Count of Holland. The Dutch name mostly used is: Den Haag, closer to its 1242 name of "Die Haghe"
Linux mint 22 will be based on ubuntu 24.04 and not 20.04 as you mention in the video.
Wait what? I said 20.04? 🤦♂️
@@michael_tunnell well I am not a native english speaker but that is what I hear and that is what youtube "hears" also in the captions... 8:06
After review, my exact quote was “20uh4 04” not sure if that’s better or worse lol
Well According to my system settings I am on Plasma 6.1.0, but I don't see the remote desktop feature anywhere, and typing rdp I get "No items matching your search" Same with "Remote Desktop" Does there have to be a network setup first for it to appear? I actually updated everything before I watched the show (Arch Endeavour). Shake cursor and edge barrier are there and work.🥳
You gotta install the krdp package and it shows up.
@@SethReee COOOOOOOOOOOL!!🥳 Sorry, but since you had to tell me: What else new and groovy am I missing for having a more vanilla Plasma install,🤔 (more in the Plasma 6 not 5 sense, since I have many throwbacks, and plenty of them no longer work in Plasma 6, like dolphin extensions😢? Plasma is rad, and there's always stuff that will go unexplored I guess, it's so freaking flexible.🤯🥳 Swiss army knives ain't got shit on that!!
@@SethReee Also, It doesn't exist using yay, and not even from KDE through Discover, at least not by that name, nor even spelling out "Remote Desktop", so I am at a loss! Maybe my computer has a bad case of THE BIT MUNCHERS!!!!! 😁 Hold on! There is the "Search the web" option and viola, now I can find out what's up with that.
Cinnamon Connect. Done and I'm your marketing guru. Hire me today.
Did I ever tell you I am a Plazmazoider? 🤔 🤪😁🤗😅🤣🤓
Why is the video in 10 fps?
When I watch it back it looks fine overall for a talking head video. But with that said the output was 30fps and the source camera was 60fps so maybe that’s an issue
Is it just me? Or does your camera feel like its running at 5 fps? Nice shirt btw. :)
No it's not just you and it's odd. If he's going for a cinematic look and feel it looks far lower than 24 fps.
When I watch it back it looks fine overall for a talking head video. But with that said the output was 30fps and the source camera was 60fps so maybe that’s an issue
He's using that into the spiderverse effect😁
It does look kinda laggy for some reason 🤔
Or maybe it's just a little smeary if you look at his hand you can really see it. Maybe it's because of what he said 😊
KDE is my favorite desktop because I can set my theme to match my wallpaper, choose my theme colors in settings that include matching file folders and selecting colors, and it has the most features, yet is still super fast. No other desktop compares, IMO. I like Cinnamon, but I think it needs more flexibility like I find in KDE.
Plasma 6.1 is awesome if you have a multi-screen setup that needs scaling.
When will custom browser docks come to obs wayland?
Please mention about Cinnamon 6.2 Waylnad support
Cinnamon won’t have solid Wayland support for at least another year at best and more likely to be in 2026 because they didn’t start working on it until last year.
Framework for the 2728727262 time.. bring us ECC support
8:55 One of the weird things about snaps is that Ubuntu preinstalls special versions of them. The preinstalled versions aren't running the latest stable version, but a version built specifically for your version of Ubuntu. Both 22.04 and 24.04 have the snap stored preinstalled, but the 22.04 is based on Gnome Software and 24.04 is the new flutter version. Annoyingly, the new snap store doesn't have a stable release yet despite being used on 23.10 and 24.04.
I feel like if something isn't actually by GNOME, it shouldn't have GNOME in the name.
Absolutely, i agree. Only GNOME apps should include that in the name
You "feel like"?
Good looking tee shirt. When will the "FHD: 1920x1080 is good enough" tees go on sale? At the same time as the "syisint and X11 'til I die" shirts, maybe? (Just kidding, no one take offense, please!)
thanks and lol I might actually make the 1080p one 😂
Looking for next release of Mint 22.
When was the last release of Mint 22?
@@mavfan1 Bada boom tsss
Wayland is horrible. The code is absolutely crazy. To make a basic window and button in Xlib(like in Win32, or Mac OS) only takes literally a couple of lines of code. To the contrary in Wayland you need 50 lines or more of code. It's absolutely ridiculous. Wayland, ironically will be the nail in the coffin of Desktop linux.
Is this based on App Development or DE Development?
@@michael_tunnell Here is some code to create a window and a button and listen to events in xlib Bear in mind, this is code is almost 1 to 1 with the Microsoft win32 API, and also very similar to the Mac OS carbon C++ API. display = XOpenDisplay(NULL); screen = DefaultScreen(display); root_window = RootWindow(display, screen); window = XCreateSimpleWindow(.....); button = XCreateSimpleWindow(....); XMapWindow(display, window); while (1) { XNextEvent(display, &event); .... } XCloseDisplay(display); Ok now let's look at the code necessary to do the same (very simple task) in Wayland.. static void pointer_handle_button(void *data, struct wl_pointer *wl_pointer, uint32_t serial, uint32_t time, uint32_t button, uint32_t state) { } } static void pointer_handle_enter(void *data, struct wl_pointer *wl_pointer, uint32_t serial, struct wl_surface *surface, wl_fixed_t sx, wl_fixed_t sy) { } static void pointer_handle_leave(void *data, struct wl_pointer *wl_pointer, uint32_t serial, struct wl_surface *surface) { } static void pointer_handle_motion(void *data, struct wl_pointer *wl_pointer, uint32_t time, wl_fixed_t sx, wl_fixed_t sy) { } static void pointer_handle_axis(void *data, struct wl_pointer *wl_pointer, uint32_t time, uint32_t axis, wl_fixed_t value) { } static const struct wl_pointer_listener pointer_listener = { pointer_handle_enter, pointer_handle_leave, pointer_handle_motion, pointer_handle_button, pointer_handle_axis, }; static void seat_handle_capabilities(void *data, struct wl_seat *seat, uint32_t caps) { if (caps & WL_SEAT_CAPABILITY_POINTER) { pointer = wl_seat_get_pointer(seat); wl_pointer_add_listener(pointer, &pointer_listener, NULL); } } static const struct wl_seat_listener seat_listener = { seat_handle_capabilities, }; static void global_registry_handler(void *data, struct wl_registry *registry, uint32_t id, const char *interface, uint32_t version) { if (strcmp(interface, wl_compositor_interface.name) == 0) { compositor = wl_registry_bind(registry, id, &wl_compositor_interface, 1); } else if (strcmp(interface, wl_shell_interface.name) == 0) { shell = wl_registry_bind(registry, id, &wl_shell_interface, 1); } else if (strcmp(interface, wl_seat_interface.name) == 0) { seat = wl_registry_bind(registry, id, &wl_seat_interface, 1); wl_seat_add_listener(seat, &seat_listener, NULL); } } static void global_registry_remover(void *data, struct wl_registry *registry, uint32_t id) { } static const struct wl_registry_listener registry_listener = { global_registry_handler, global_registry_remover, }; int main() { display = wl_display_connect(NULL); struct wl_registry *registry = wl_display_get_registry(display); wl_registry_add_listener(registry, ®istry_listener, NULL); wl_display_dispatch(display); wl_display_roundtrip(display); surface = wl_compositor_create_surface(compositor); button_surface = wl_compositor_create_surface(compositor); shell_surface = wl_shell_get_shell_surface(shell, surface); wl_shell_surface_set_toplevel(shell_surface); wl_surface_commit(surface); wl_surface_commit(button_surface); while (wl_display_dispatch(display) != -1) { // Event handling is done in the callbacks } wl_display_disconnect(display); return 0; } ...not really intuitive code. But worse it is not even comparable to win32, nor Mac code. The better route would have been to refactor X instead of inventing a verbose protocol that requires huge amounts of boiler plate code.
late comment, but ... i must mention ! ...tiling = cosmic new idea ? -So as a AWESOME USER .This is not new ... Its the idea of awesome wm .. Awesome comes as desktop environment with tiling possibilities Its the oldest idea from one of the oldest window manager. But thats the problem in the world of tiling !Awesome is no real tiling window manager and in the world of desktop environment no one mentions my Love awesome, a real lonely live ... 😇😇😊🙃😇 -Just joking great show thanks to the team 🙏🙏🙏
😆😆 thanks for commenting, by the way we moved the show to its own channel which is accessible through destinationlinux.net be sure to subscribe 😎
I remember configuring cups and sane for printing and scanning lol
Old news.. *Tencent* owns a lot of companies.
I just tried KDE for the first time since KDE 3.0 and I really did not like it. They try way too much to show you everything, to give you all the options... way, way too much.
How so? How do they show too much? Is it just the amount of options in System Settings?
@@michael_tunnell for the point of reference I am using Ubuntu and I made gnome to look like the old Unity. In the KDE file manager got the usual suspects in the left bar, plus 2-3 separate lists, and and data about the partition, and the tree graphics with nodes for the actual folders... I got the concept of tree, just put the path of the folder and let me click on individual folder in that path, I need just 1 list in the left bar... my list, let me, in the bottom bar on the screen, in their quest to offer more and more, is now treated as an app space, and I just want to put links to apps and folders and I could not put folders in there... they try way to hard.
@@michael_tunnell well lots of small things, like the laft panel in file manager, you got 3 separate lists with locations, available space on the drive, when I just need a single one... mine. They also give you visual representation of the tree folder, like we do not understand the concept, and so on. In their quest to give you everything they made an app drawer out of start bar, and I can't pin specific folders in there and so on. They wanted to do way too much, and the worst part is, it actually fucked up Gnom. Now some apps will not recognize dark mode.... no, just no. The experience was so bad that I won't touch it for at least 20 more years.
In Brazil people call suze
That’s interesting and a very common thing that happens in the USA as well
How does changing the scheduler make any kernel more micro?
I use Firefox, but I struggle with the auto HTTPS junk. Some of us live in apartments that block access to decent ISPs and force cheap ISPs that update your IP randomly every month or so because their network sucks, unlike the previous fiber provider that kept my IP for two years including changing addresses and modems. Let'sencrypt quit working awhile ago because I couldn't figure out how to update my IP. Probably just me. But after a month of failed attempts and yet another IP change, i am stuck with Http. 😡 I do have a hosted site overseas that has SSL, but local site I use for personal use is a pain to connect using modern security browsers
In the scant few benchmarks in common between the platforms, the current flagship AMD laptop processors have better performance per watt than the flagship Apple processors. The difference in battery life has more to do with poor OS tuning. Windows power management is woefully bad. I bet a properly configured AMD Linux laptop can out sip a macbook
Not only a cashgrab, but also an ad for Vicki and her company.
